Fastball - “Out of My Head”

The first CD I ever bought was a Fastball CD. I also bought a SmashMouth CD at the same time, so clearly I was in the midst of a serious lapse in my mental state.

That said, this song (as well as “The Way”) is still an amazing song. I’m instantly transported back to my early- and mid-teens — back when I had no idea what this album’s name (“All the Pain Money Can Buy”) even meant.

Where were you when Fastball rose to semi-stardom? I wonder if they’re still around? And does anyone really care? Were there ever any die-hard “Fastball” fans, besides the teenaged losers who bought their CDs simply because they liked the band’s two singles?

Fastball - “The Way”

This is one of the songs that defines middle school for me—which is to say the late-1990s. Probably because Fastball’s CD “All the Pain Money Can Buy” is one of the first two albums I ever bought, and probably it’s just an amazing fucking song. Even though I’m not really sure what it’s about.

Interesting side note: Does anyone else remember seeing a Fastball poster on the older sister’s bedroom wall in the movie version of “10 Things I Hate About You”?
