Hanson - “Penny and Me”

This song is nothing like “Mmmbop!” (thank god). This is mature Hanson. This is Hanson proving that maybe they do have some talent, after all. I’m not gonna go out and buy any of their albums, but this song definitely has a permanent place on my summer playlist.

And the fact that “Penny and Me” is an awesome song makes it much easier for me to finally admit that I kinda liked “Mmmbop!” even though I told everyone I hated it. ;)

Hanson - “Mmmbop”

I hated this song when it came out, but I hated Hanson even more. They were the ugliest, most androgynous group of pre-pubescent musicians I’d ever seen.

That said, I still kinda hate the song. But I can now fully recognize its well-deserved place in the Awful Pop Song Hall of Fame. If only I could think of a pop song with a wordless chorus.
